The earliest known ancestor of William HOWES (1849-1932) is that of Samuel HOWES and his wife Rachel HARBOTTLE.  They married 2 February 1637 in Great Yarmouth.  Samuel was born about 1612, and Rachel about 1617, both births beleived to have occured in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England.

One known child from this marriage, and this was also a Samuel, born around 1642.  He was married Dorothy around 1668 in Great Yarmouth.  Dorothy was born around 1647.

Three known children from this marriage.  These being:

• Samuel - baptised 6 Dec 1668 in Great Yarmouth
• John - born around 1671 in Great Yarmouth
• Edmond - born around 1674 in Great Yarmouth

The Samuel above married Martha around 1688 in Great Yarmouth.  She was born around 1670.  One known child from this marriage, and this child was John, born around 1689 in Great Yarmouth.  John married Susan around 1711.  Susan was born around 1688.  Between them, there are three children that we know off:

• John - born around 1712 in Great Yarmouth
• Thomas - born around 1715 in Great Yarmouth.  He married Sarah DAWSON, and had nine children
• Joseph - born around 1717 in Great Yarmouth

John Married Mary NEWELL on 6 Aug 1740 in Great Yarmouth.  Mary was born around 1719, and died about March 1747.  They had three children:

• Mary - born around 1741, and died around September 1742 in Great Yarmouth
• William - born around 1743 in Great Yarmouth
• John - born around 1744 in Great Yarmouth.  He married Judith BLANKARD, two known children

William married Elizabeth SPRATT in Great Yarmouth on 27 March 1768.  Elizabeth was born around 1750.  They had five children:

• William - born around 1768 in Great Yarmouth, and died in Norwich, Norfolk around 1824
• Elizabeth - born around 1772, and died the next year in Great Yarmouth
• Richard - born around 1776 in Great Yarmouth, and died in Norwich, Norfolk around 1824.  He married Catherine TAYLOR on 24 December 1794 in Beighton, Norfolk, six children
• Sarah - baptised on 25 January 1779 in Great Yarmouth, and married John BACCHUS on 24 June 1809 in Great Yarmouth.  No children have been identified
• Robert - born around 1781 in Norfolk

Robert married Susan WISEMAN in Upton, Norfolk on 20 September 1810.  Five children:

• William - born 7 March 1812 in Great Yarmouth.  He married Clarinda EDWARDS on 17 November 1836 in Great Yarmouth
• John Wiseman - born 26 Mar 1819 in Great Yarmouth
• Mary Ann - born around 1821 in Norfolk
• Eliza - born around 1821 in Norfolk
• Elizabeth - born around 1826 in Norfolk
